The Current Coin Grading Experience

The current coin grading experience requires collectors to send their coins to a third-party grading service for manual inspection by grading experts. This process includes a complicated entry form, variable fees (depending on the age and value of the coin), shipping, and waiting for a response.

A New User Experience

The OCS200 CoinGradr puts the power of Computer Coin Grading in your hands. Instead of months, you can insert your coin, run a scan, and receive your FingerPrint report with a Sheldon Grade and estimated market value in minutes.

A Detailed FingerPrint Grading Report in 15 Minutes or Less

QCG offers detailed measurements for both circulated and uncirculated coins, focusing on the data provided. The transparency of the grading process is emphasized, even if results are disputed. Additionally, Computer Coin Grading allows analysis of the ranking of coin attributes in a global database by series, date, or mint location.

Computer Coin Grading Measurements

Effective hard data measurements must satisfy three specific baseline quality dimensions:

(1) Objectivity: The measurement stays identical regardless of who performs the test.

(2) Verifiable: The same measurement process must arrive at the same number.

(3) Reliability: The data captured is via structured and calibrated machinery.

Using Advanced Image Analysis to Determine a Sheldon Grade

Image Capture is performed in our light-tight chamber, which features four different light sources. A minimum of 24 images is taken per coin.

This video demonstrates what is happening inside the machine. The software interface you see on the screen is for the embedded software used to capture and analyze the images for grading. You would not see this software running when you use the device. You would insert your coin, start the process, and wait for your computer coin grade report.

Computer Coin Grading Machine vs. Cell Phone App Photos

There is significant hardware-driven bias in cell phone cameras and lenses, primarily driven by the physical limitations of fitting high-quality optics into thin, mobile devices. Taking a photo of a coin with your cell phone is not only limited by the phone hardware, but it is also significantly impacted by the environment where you take the photos.

The OCS200 CoinGradr controls all aspects of the photo-taking environment from illumination intensity sensor to light-tight enclosure that uses industrial-grade imaging technology to capture the highest level of detail possible. This all leads to better images, more accurate analysis, and more consistent grading outcomes.
